Spring Concert 2009

This Concert was a program of classical ballet and contemporary dance. It was presented by the students in the NDT Pre-Professioanl Program plus their apprentice program in April 2009.

Amazing concert yesterday!

Dear Nunnbetter Family,
What an amazing concert yesterday! I was so impressed with how much the girls have improved even MORE than they were a few months ago. Leath- you really know how to create an atmosphere where the students keep striving for the best. It is not an easy thing to do and I feel so fortunate that our kids have had this experience with you!

Congrats to all the Nunnbetter moms! Your children were an inspiration!

Bravo on your Dance Company... From a new admirer

Dear Mr. Nunn:
One of the very few regrets that I have from childhood is my lack of poise and balance in toe shoes. Much to my dismay, I was a supreme flop as a ballerina.

Now age 53, I've learned that the enjoyment that comes from watching a ballet is far more satisfying than my failed attempts at participation.

Last Sunday, Michelle Caridi Copland asked me to attend Gianna's performance in Bergenfield. While I adore Gianna and I would support her avocational endeavors, I wasn't really looking forward to spending a glorious afternoon in The Bergenfield High School auditorium. But, I made a promise so I abided by it.

I was truly overwhelmed with the professionalism, the caliber, the poise, and the complexity of your pieces, Mr. Nunn. I told Michelle that Nunnbetter deserves attention and accolades for both the sheer talent of these young dancers and for your extraordinary choreography. Bravo to you for what you have done to inspire these girls. I was both surprised and duly impressed.

I know that "attention" and "accolades" equates to funding. And, as today is Michelle Copland's birthday and as she is one of my most favorite people, I am enclosing a check in the amount of $360 in honor of her special day (and in honor of Gianna, too !!).

All my best as you continue to sustain the level of excellence you have so obviously achieved, Mr. Nunn.

LOCAL BALLET SCHOOL APPEARS IN PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTION

Twenty dancers from the Nunnbetter Dance Theatre along with additional students from the Nunnbetter school appeared in a performance of the New Jersey Ballet on April 26th at the Bergen PAC Theater (formerly the John Harms) in Englewood.

Carolyn Clark, director of the New Jersey ballet invited the Nunnbetter dancers to be a part of the company's production of Sleeping Beauty, a rare and special opportunity, especially because the New Jersey Ballet has its own school. Leath Nunn who heads the nbdt civic company and the school located in Bergenfield New Jersey was previously a teacher at the New Jersey Ballet.

Mr. Nunn stated that it was very gratifying to him and he was proud that his dancers had achieved such a high level of excellence as to merit the invitation. Mr. Nunn, a principal dancer with some of the world's leading ballet companies before opening his school in Bergenfield, emphasizes classical technique in his school even though classes are offered in other areas ranging from modern dance to hip-hop.

In Sleeping Beauty his young dancers did more than just parade as extras on stage. They performed the famous Polonaisse in the Third Act of the ballet known as Aurora's wedding. The school and company can be seen next fall in five performances of the Nutcracker which will be given on December 12th through 14th.
